The Hook is the one place on the Gorge where just about any level of sailor can have fun. It is just east of Well's Island on a hook shaped peninsula. The inner part of the peninsula has no current and light winds for beginners, the west side as some chop, shallow, but somewhat mild winds due to the wind shadow created by Well's Island (perfect for learning water starts). And the north side is where there is more clean westerly winds with 3-4 foot chop. Inside - beginners, west side - intermediates, and north side - advanced. Its as if parts of The Gorge were created just for windsurfing!
The southern tip of that charming stretch of rocky shoreline collectively known as Pleasure Point, The Hook is located down the stairs at the end of 41st Avenue. On bigger days you might get away with shortboard but it's generally big sticks out there. Be prepared for a taste of localism, not recommended for beginners.
